The NCTE Two-Year B.Ed. program is structured into four semesters with a balanced blend of theoretical and practical courses aimed at preparing student-teachers comprehensively. Each semester covers various aspects of teacher education through both full and half papers.
- Semester 1: Focuses on foundational knowledge in childhood development, education in contemporary India, and subject knowledge, alongside practical tasks like reading and reflecting on texts.
- Semester 2: Introduces learning and teaching methods, along with pedagogy and assessment. Courses like “Drama and Art in Education” promote creative approaches to teaching.
- Semester 3: Dedicated primarily to school internships, which enable student-teachers to gain real classroom experience and apply theoretical knowledge in a practical setting.
- Semester 4: Emphasizes advanced topics like gender and education, creating inclusive schools, and the use of technology in teaching. An optional course offers flexibility in pursuing vocational education, physical education, or guidance and counseling.
The structure also includes “Engagement with the Field,” which integrates tasks and assignments relevant to each course, ensuring hands-on experience and application of knowledge.
Optional courses offer flexibility to specialize in areas like vocational education or to take an additional pedagogy course for another school subject, based on the student’s background, enhancing their subject expertise and teaching scope.
